While the following job description outlines our expectations of a full-time Pastor, we also understand (with much grace) that a bi-vocational Pastor may need to schedule some of these duties around normal business hours.

Hainesville Baptist Church Pastor Job Description

Job Purpose

The Pastor serves as the under shepherd (Elder) to the membership of Hainesville Baptist Church (HBC); spiritually feeding, leading, and nurturing the congregation. The Pastor is primarily responsible for communicating God’s Word through exegetical teaching, ministering to spiritual needs, and providing biblical leadership for the Church.

Biblical Ministry Requirements according to:

1 Timothy 3:1-7,  Titus 1:5-9,   1 Peter 5:1-4

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties listed below are the essential functions of the Pastor of HBC:

A.      Preaching and Worship Leader

  1. Prepares and delivers messages that are Biblically sound dividing the Word rightly and demonstrating how the Word applies to the membership’s daily walk with Christ.
  2. Shepherds the flock in evangelistic efforts through preaching and giving invitations during worship services, special church events, visitation (as needed), and outreach efforts.
  3. Oversees planning special worship programs and events as needed.
  4. Performs the sacraments of the Lord’s Supper and Baptisms.

B.   Discipleship

  1. Provides leadership for the church in all Spiritual matters, (feeding of the flock).
  2. Directs plans for ministry and Church growth, develops and applies the Church vision and mission based on biblically based beliefs taught in Holy Scripture.
  3. Assesses through review and oversite of educational material, Bible Study, Sunday School, programs and resources to ensure their alignment with sound biblical teachings.

C.    Church Relations

  1. Leads the ministerial staff.
  2. Oversees Church discipline and manages conflict in the Church.
  3. Seeks to reconcile relationships and promotes unity within the Church.

D.   Pastoral Care

  1. Motivates, equips, and nurtures the members of the Church through leading by example, preaching and teaching God’s Word, and maintaining group ministries.
  1. Contacts/visits hospitalized or grieving Church members (as needed; must have his own transportation).
  2. Officiates at weddings and funerals.
  3. Provides premarital counseling, counseling regarding salvation and spiritual issues, and other forms of counseling for Church members.

Qualifications/Experience

A.    The incumbent for this position must:

  1. Possess spiritual leadership abilities.
  2. Be an effective communicator with experience in teaching and preaching.
  3. Have experience in leading others to Christ and counseling.
  4. Be ordained as a Pastor.
  5. Spend significant time in prayer and Bible study.
  6. Have a minimum of an associate degree and five years of Pastoral experience.

B.    The incumbent must possess the following spiritual gifts and traits. Must be:

  1. Stable, mature
  2. Compassionate
  3. Discreet
  4. Focused on shepherding the saints – equipping them for Christian ministry
  5. Possess the following attributes: have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, integrity, humility, fiscal responsibility, purpose-driven, effective communicator, be an encourager, peaceful, patient, gentle, not quick tempered, and demonstrate the perseverance of the saints.

Working Conditions

  1. May be required to travel during the week to visit sick members in hospitals and at home or grieving families.
  2. Schedules office hours to conduct counseling sessions.
  3. Provide a means to be contacted outside of Church services via phone or email, also be available during emergencies or, when there is a specific need, to be contacted by members.

General Oversight of:

  1. Music Ministries
  2. Childrens/Youth Ministries
  3. Administrative staff (secretary)
  4. Sunday morning Bible Studies (Sunday School teaching)
