Hainesville Baptist Church Pastor Job Description
Job Purpose
The Pastor serves as the under shepherd (Elder) to the membership of Hainesville Baptist Church (HBC); spiritually feeding, leading, and nurturing the congregation. The Pastor is primarily responsible for communicating God’s Word through exegetical teaching, ministering to spiritual needs, and providing biblical leadership for the Church.

1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, 1 Peter 5:1-4
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties listed below are the essential functions of the Pastor of HBC:
A. Preaching and Worship Leader
- Prepares and delivers messages that are Biblically sound dividing the Word rightly and demonstrating how the Word applies to the membership’s daily walk with Christ.
- Shepherds the flock in evangelistic efforts through preaching and giving invitations during worship services, special church events, visitation (as needed), and outreach efforts.
- Oversees planning special worship programs and events as needed.
- Performs the sacraments of the Lord’s Supper and Baptisms.
B. Discipleship
- Provides leadership for the church in all Spiritual matters, (feeding of the flock).
- Directs plans for ministry and Church growth, develops and applies the Church vision and mission based on biblically based beliefs taught in Holy Scripture.
- Assesses through review and oversite of educational material, Bible Study, Sunday School, programs and resources to ensure their alignment with sound biblical teachings.
C. Church Relations
- Leads the ministerial staff.
- Oversees Church discipline and manages conflict in the Church.
- Seeks to reconcile relationships and promotes unity within the Church.
D. Pastoral Care
- Motivates, equips, and nurtures the members of the Church through leading by example, preaching and teaching God’s Word, and maintaining group ministries.
- Contacts/visits hospitalized or grieving Church members (as needed; must have his own transportation).
- Officiates at weddings and funerals.
- Provides premarital counseling, counseling regarding salvation and spiritual issues, and other forms of counseling for Church members.
Qualifications/Experience
A. The incumbent for this position must:
- Possess spiritual leadership abilities.
- Be an effective communicator with experience in teaching and preaching.
- Have experience in leading others to Christ and counseling.
- Be ordained as a Pastor.
- Spend significant time in prayer and Bible study.
- Have a minimum of an associate degree and five years of Pastoral experience.
B. The incumbent must possess the following spiritual gifts and traits. Must be:
- Stable, mature
- Compassionate
- Discreet
- Focused on shepherding the saints – equipping them for Christian ministry
- Possess the following attributes: have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, integrity, humility, fiscal responsibility, purpose-driven, effective communicator, be an encourager, peaceful, patient, gentle, not quick tempered, and demonstrate the perseverance of the saints.
Working Conditions
- May be required to travel during the week to visit sick members in hospitals and at home or grieving families.
- Schedules office hours to conduct counseling sessions.
- Provide a means to be contacted outside of Church services via phone or email, also be available during emergencies or, when there is a specific need, to be contacted by members.
General Oversight of:
- Music Ministries
- Childrens/Youth Ministries
- Administrative staff (secretary)
- Sunday morning Bible Studies (Sunday School teaching)
Works in Concert with:
Deacon Body
